Completed: #97 – Go to a professional sport game. Done.
Tonight my hubby and I went to see the Devils beat the Senators.
The game was fun AND since it was just me and my hubby and it involved dinner… it was also our date night for the month! (#59) Score!
I grew up in a family that mainly watched football and baseball (the NY/NJ teams, specifically). Hockey is closer to football than baseball, but the differences are interesting. For one, you don’t need to call a time-out and put the whole game on hold just to swap players in and out. They swap in and out with a nearly musical essence. There aren’t actually time-outs at all. The game moves forward with the same type of momentum that a player on skates has. It can slow and stop, but not in the way football and baseball do.
In football, doing a dance in the end zone is unsportsmanlike conduct. In hockey, the refs stand by and let the guys fight it out a bit before breaking it up. Super awesome (probably my favorite part). Sure, they get five for fighting, but they were still allowed to fight. Oh, yes, the seating – the benches are right next to each other, not entirely across the field. I’d love to see a football game where the players have to all stand next to each other.
As far as the cheerleaders/dancers go, though, football wins. Sorry Devils dancers – you were all really cute and good dancers, but you’re so far off in the perimeter of the stadium that your presence is negligible.
The food at the Prudential Center is surprisingly good. Getting there was super easy as was getting home. All in all, we had a great time – especially since the Devils won 4-3 in overtime.
I’m not sure I can top this for next month’s date night. Maybe I should make my hubby plan it.
